Default You can call me Ray

you can call me Jay, you can call me Johnny, you can call me Sonny, you can call me Ray Jay Jr., but ya doesn't has to call me Johnson! For those of you that remember Bill Saluga from Miller Lite commercials back in the 70's, this one still cracks me up! Well, the old adage that goes "I'm heading down to Florida to catch some rays" certainly yielded well in yesterday's salty pursuit...Cow-nosed ray w/32.5" wingspan. While enjoying the beautiful salty venue, catching trout(20?), reds(1), ladyfish, pinfish, lizardfish, flounder(2) the stereo-typical thump of just another bite turned into a drag screaming alarm. The trout tackle got seriously tested early on in the New Year when I just knew Mr. Snook/Cobia/Tarpon made a surprise, unannounced visit. After about a 10 minute tug-o-war, I finally viewed the culprit to be approximately 20-25 lbs. of wing-hooked attitude! Got him to the net for a quick photo shoot before returning him to his cooled down 64 degree salt bath. Another great day on the salt to exemplify the "anything's possible" mantra that encompasses all trips. The severed, fileted, cubed wings are very good breaded/fried and don't ever believe that restaurants serve Rays punched out to resemble scallops. The fibrous darker meat could never resemble scallops...somewhat in taste however. I've cleaned/eaten dozens in my life. Also included is a protected, spectacular Eagle ray 52" wingspan I caught last year on trout tackle! Supposedly one of a few rays that make incredible 3 - 4' airborne jumps(I can vouch for this) that would have yielded incredible video footage...oh yes, the MAGIC of salt.

I have watched a lot of videos of them saying how good they were on the table. I said 2 years ago the next big one that comes over the gunnel would meet a knife. Have not caught a ray since.

Actually Grunts are my favorite, but you get a lot of blank looks when you say things like that.
Grunts N grits is tough to beat, even better than Specks.

No difference in skate and Ray's. Had em both in fact cow-nosed Ray's are similar if not the same!
