Thread: Found...Lost shaker o'Salt

Thankfully, I did my back to the brine switch about 2 weeks ago. Using Crystal River, Ozello and Homosassa as my points of venue, all is good in West Central Florida. Dropping my tackle-size w/6.5' medium light, fast taper rod and 2000 series reels loaded w/6 lb. Super Slick braid and 20 lb. flouro has increased risk factor for lost fish. Last Thursday/Friday I was able to manage several adrenaline rushes that we can't help to encounter when we live on the edge. Thursday's catch included a beautifully colored "plumpkin" Red that measured 27"(7 lb 14 oz.), 19 " red, 9 legal trout(kept 5) 15 - 19". Also many aerobatic ladyfish(great cut bait for Reds/trout etc.), although I only use artificials mostly. I started using 1/16 oz football jigs w/Matzuo black-chrome sickles 3/0 with Mann's sting ray grubs. Sticky sharp! and great shallow water presentation combination. Both sight-fished legal Reds engulfed a light amber translucent coloration, and it was about a minute before the big boy realized he had made his last mistake. After making a 100 yard tug-o-war/chase, he was brought to net/ruler to see him peg out to max legal size. His fresh color was epic with equally stellar "shoulders".
Friday's results, even with significantly amped-up winds, had another nice "bumper fish"(although too small). A beautiful 21" fork length Cobia took it's tackle testing turn, along with 9 legal trout(kept 5 from 16 - 20.5"). Trout are biting on the outgoing tide while the reds were taken on higher incoming phase. Also used were MirroLure 'lil Johns Electric chicken on same jighead and were located mainly on 3 - 5 foot spawning flats.
Shared catch as I normally try to do with neighbors and kept the Red for tacos.
