    Default Fish before the Hunt

Being pressed for time this morning, I had to forego the Lake Harney event. Wanted to see everyone but just too much to do. We leave early in the morning for the Texas hunt I spoke of a few weeks back. The SIL and I spoke yesterday and decided his frozer was a bit thin on some fillets and we could both squeeze in a short trip this morning. A bit over a 3 hour tour but not much more. We started early, greeted by a stunning sunrise of deep color, and left the water before 10, fish cleaned and in the bag just after 11. Started slow and I wondered if I wouldn't wind up with egg on my face after telling of how good it was 2 days ago. Once again the rods weren't all out before the first one went down and Mike had to pose with the first fish. The other fish he holds is the big one of the day. About 7:45 the bite picked up and stayed steady until we left them biting. Many throwbacks today and towards the end we were throwing back 11"plus fish cuz we already had a good many in the box. One special one measured just over 14 and was an even pound and a half, and as you see in the pic below, several others were also very good. The final number on the clicker was 38 and the box held 16, all of which went towards a family fish fry to be held when some of his relatives come in through Christmas.

Mike had never been shown how to use an electric knife so that changed today. He did about half while I cut out the rib cage and then we swapped and I finished up. He's a quick study and picked it up fast, just needs some more practice to be comfortable with it. 2 large storage bags went home to the frozer, and the other errands done in plenty of time for our leave time. Looking forward to this trip west in a big way, and this has been a week that I will look back on with a big smile in the future. Below are some pics from this morning. I'm also looking forward to the pics from the folks at Harney. I hope they did as well or better than we did. Time spent with Mike is always good, he's better in the boat every time we go. If you get the time, go get you some. I left plenty behind......Skeet.
