new to area Jacksonville
I have a couple of questions being new to the area and all (Jacksonville). How far south down the St. Johns river do you have to go until you can get into the specks? Are there any areas river and lakes/ponds that are decent to fish from shore?

Can't answer the shore fishing part - not that familar with the river itself and
where the salt-brackish & freshwater points are.
But Crescent Lake would be one of your first chances, Rodman Res. would be
another.
There are several that live in J-ville area that can assist you -that are on CdC

There is a salt content all the way past Harney, to what degree changes throughout the year. I hear talk of a Black Creek up that way. Too bad Pontiac, Slabkeeper and a few others that were posting regular out of J'ville quit posting.

Slabdaddy904 ( Al Green) i believe has a cabin on St Johns.
Hopefully he sees this post and will comment on it.

Palatka, Rodman Reservoir

Another GREAT place to fish, although you won't catch crappie, is the dam at the Guana River on A1A just north of St. Augustine

Thanks for the info guys, it is always good to see folks willing to help out the new guy. Coming from where we were in Alabama didn't get to do much fishing, we were too far from the best lakes to go on a regular basis. Hoping to change that around down here, the wife and I don't plan on moving again until its time to meet the good Lord.

I live in Jax too.
You can catch specks in jullington creek ,black creek, six mile and trout creek.
Rodman is one of my favorite places but it is in a draw down and my experience has not been good because of the concentration of gar and needle fish. They are supposed to fill it back up in March .
I'd say right now it's worth the drive to go to woodruff in Deleon springs.
If you need help let me know.
