That lake has a great fishery but I am not a fan. Water conditions go south fast. And what you did is what Slabkeeper showed me as well. Still prefer the 10 minute ride to Monroe or 30 minutes to Harney now.

Yes, it was my 4th trip ever to lake Crescent & I may have finally figured some things out, in baby steps that is....Thought I would sneak attack a pre-fish Saturday...with 40 other boatsI have to admit my previous outings have been a struggle to see such beauties come into weigh or the photos that have been posted, only to personally leave with my tail tucked between my legs each time. Well the day started & ended with fog, til 1pm, but the Lowrance GPS put me right where I needed to be, after a few experiments with weight distribution...to get my baits in the strike zone, you see it started with a conversation I had with a out of state CDC member while attending the Talquin Slabfest...thanks Spiderman...that these fish on Crescent hardly ever suspend & there must be too abundant of food source on the bottom to ever chase anything higher in the column
that's what the fish finder's for right, well I can attest to marking other fish, but after yesterday I'm convinced only the ones on the bottom BITE...total of 25, not exactly gang bustn', but for me VERY encouraging....no 2#ers, but few 12" & (1) 13" the biggest...Note they seamed to like mother of pearl white & bubblegum color combo & also that the GPS only got me through the fog to where I have seen Vic "anchorman" & SYG fish in the past
All fish released, only about 10 would have made the cut anyways...most 9"-11"

Good report and good attitude. Crescent is a mystery...and has forced a many of fisherman to go home ready to sell all their fishing stuff, especially this year.
A poor day fishing is better than a good day at work!Speck Detector LIKED above post
You look like a happy man to me Jeff. You'll get it figured out if'n you keep after it. Never been so I'm no help at all. Sounds like a good day overall.

Nice report Jeff, I like Crescent but it wasn't very nice to me the first few times I fished it either.
After several times, I learned more & improved but still learning every time I go![]()

An off year for sure, yet still a great place to hope to land that trophy slab. The more I fish the lake the more I love it. Everything has to come together but when it does its a natural high. I have even come to enjoy the early morning drives through the assorted 4-5 towns on the way there. Always quiet, always calming, only a few cars on the road.
Its in my blood now and I doubt I will make any effort to change that come colder season in Florida. Crescent or Bust right now when I get the chance. A yearly pilgrimage for me I will plan on for years to come. I actually feel kinda lucky to be at least within driving distance of the lake. The night before still excites me as much now as it did the first time I ventured there. I just fished 2 outta the last 3 days there and I still cant wait to get back for more.
Of course the outstanding company / people I run across out there also add into the picture but overall I just cant get enough of it
The 2 pounders are not as prolific this year as in years past, yet there are still some sweet slabs being had here and there.
I hunt for picture fish /and release...................and Crescent fish take a fine photo, and darn if it don't feel rewarding letting that slab swim away again for another day.
Can the impossible dream of a 3 pounder happen to me?..........................maybe?.........One day here.......its possible. And that is all the motivation I need to keep the dream alive and continue the Crescent hunt.
Cant wait until the next sunrise over Crescent and the feeling of ..............maybe today is the day![]()

Crescent has definitely spoiled me from the past 3 years. Just thinking about Stuart's post and got me thinking....I haven't even caught one 2 lber this year. Dad has caught two right on the money at 2 lbs, but none for me. I have only been to Crescent once and that was in October for a grand total of one dink caught. Easy conclusion: Maybe I gotta get up the courage to go back to Crescent just once more.

Just about any of the lakes off the St Johns with river access will have large Crappie in them. The aboundant food avail from St Johns - fresh as well as salt has these
fish gorging all the time.....possible another reason why they hug the lower part
of water column.
Past few years - the pressure on Crescent has been very, very heavy - also, warmer
weather this year has not convinced them to start migration to spawn as fast.
They will come.............Think about it, George Parker took a 3 pounder off the
Jetties in Lake George, April 11th, 2015 that had already spawned out.......She
could have maybe gone 3 lb 5 -6 with roe onboard.
There is always hope - without having to go to Miss. or Alabama to get one.
