    Default For Many Years

I have had a tradition of enjoying the outdoors in some way before I go give thanks with the family. I have hunted, fished and just ridden around in the solitude of a day that most folks stay home for. I usually stay til around 10 and head for the house to help with what I can preparing for the crowd. My wife usually tells me I'm in the way for everything except peeling spuds. Now that my battery gremlin should be living elsewhere i figured on dragging some lines around and keeping my livewell dry and releasing my catch as I did yesterday. I'm seldom alone as I see others out and about but have never shared it with anyone I know. Monroe will probably get a visit just after daybreak as the Wife only has 2 dishes to prepare for the gathering at her brothers house this year. I have had some excellent times in these few hours. So tell me folks, anyone else do anything like this?

My family always deer hunts, everybody helps get food ready the night before. Deer hunting in the a.m., if I have already taken my deer, then crappie fishing is on the menu. Thanksgiving has always been spent in the woods or on the water. Since I have done this my whole life, I just assumed it was what everyone did. LOL

Not too long ago Dad, my sister and myself would do some fishing or golfing on the morning of Thanksgiving. Many times our Thanksgiving meal would consist mostly of crappie. And then......I had kids. So no more of that.
Nice story Skeetbum. Sounds peaceful and I for one am jealous.

Since moving from where I grew up 12yrs now, all holidays are much less hectic & more relaxing... the beach on Easter, for example, can't do that in Chicago/Slab your in for a treat this year...But for fishing purposes Thanksgiving is traditionally the weekend that heightens the bite on my home lake Harney...the biggins are pretty much picked over by January, so I'll start to venture to other lakes...but as for the day of a holiday, it has becomes a intimate time w/wife & son....

For 9 years now, me & 3 friends have gone fishin Thanksgiving morning.
We usually start early & end by noon, competing against each other for a $1 or $5 bet
Then head home for a drink to celebrate the good times & feast on the food
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

Head to the east coast, spend the day with mom / dinner. Usually doing honey-dos needing done until dinner. Try and stay awake until after list addressed and between eating. Head home when able and get ready for the following day or two of fishing.

Xmas she comes over to our house and we always go fishing together Xmas morning

always an adventure when mom comes fishing. (got herself a 16 inch piggy a few years back)
