I was originally going to visit Lake Tarpon today but instead I decided to save some windshield time and stay a little closer to home and try out Silver Lake. I imagine there are about 100 Silver Lakes around, so to clarify I was on Silver Lake at the northern edge of Hernando County, I-75 crosses over it around mile marker 307.

This was my first time on this lake so I didn't really know what to expect. I have done numerous web searches and can find very little about fishing on this lake. I put in around 8:30 this morning and was surprised at how many boats were around, perhaps it being a holiday for some added to the traffic. I started off trolling 4 lines behind my motorized kayak, one had a beetle spin, another had a small crank bait, and the other two had one each soft plastic jig and maribou jig in various colors. I ended up with about a half dozen crappie, none of which were big enough to keep. The biggest was just a hair over 10", the rest were 8-9". Most were caught in about 6-7 feet of water, water temp was 67F. I could not find a consistent color that they wanted, in fact I don't think I caught more than 1 fish per color.

Anyways, it was a fun day of trolling, not sure if I'll visit this lake again anytime soon though.
