Lake Weir's a clear lake with a lot of pleasure craft traffic...beautiful lake and great ramps with amenities but not the greatest fishing lake from what I hear. I've been there but have never fished it. Don't know anyone who fishes Apopka.

There are specks in Weir, but I have never fished it. I have a buddy who used to catch some nice fish there not too long ago. I am afraid of that clear water myself.

Just stick to natural colors and troll. The fish are spookier and I would think longline trolling would be best. Butler Chain is gin clear too and hard to figure out.

I think Lake Apopka is not too bad on specks. In fact, out of the entire Harris/Dora/apopka chain is much rather fish apopka. Best advice I can give is to put in at downtown winter garden and follow the south shoreline west into gourds neck. Look for the clearer water on south shoreline half way through the neck.
Hey Todd_vec...I am sending you a private message.

CrappieUSA is havin a tournament on Lake Weir/George on 7/26/14 so there must be some fish there or it's a good place to hold the weigh in. I might have some info if we fish there in July.
Additional info:
Lake Weir (South Marion County)
Located near Weirsdale, this 5,685-acre lake is different from most Florida lakes, with lots of depths exceeding 20 feet and an irregular bottom. Low water levels this year can make launching hazardous, so caution should be used. The FWC maintains 12 brush fish attractors on Lake Weir which are successfully utilized by many anglers. The attractors were refurbished with new brush in the January 2010 and can be easily spotted by looking for the large yellow buoys. Also, FWC is experimenting with Fish-in-a-Barrel attractors on Lake Weir. These attractors are PVC cubes surrounding halves of PVC barrels that were designed to provide structure without snagging tackle. These attractors are marked by yellow buoys with blue caps. For GPS coordinates of the attractors, contact our fisheries biologists at 352-732-1225. Most anglers use minnows and grass shrimp near the attractors, but some will drift the open waters too.
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
I don't know, I hadn't been fishing in almost a month. I've been the guy skiing on Carlton 2-3x a week lately (shedding my extra winter pounds LOL). Seriously thinking about going to bass fish the canals on Harris in the morning.
Was doing some exploring that way 2 weeks ago and seen some very nice potential.
