    Default Lake Tarpon (3/4/2014)

Very excited - my uncle is in town to visit us and his sister (my mother) and wants to go fishing! I am taking him to Lake Tarpon in the morning and hope to catch a few crappie, or ... as he says "one bigger than your dad caught"!

Wish us luck and I will post a report tomorrow after we get back.

Well, Mission "Uncle Bills Crappie" was a success! Here's the report:

We hit the water around 10:30 with overcast skies and no wind at all. Trolled from Pasture Fence Point to Piney Point staying in 12-13 feet of water with no hits. Trolled back north as the wind started to pick up a little and we started catching fish. Trolled water depths of 8 to 15 feet, with most hits occurring in about 12-13 feet about 8 feet down. We found better fish (12-13") in the NE portion of the lake and spent the rest of the day there. Final tally was 10 crappie and 4 bluegill.

Most fish were hooked on 1/32 ounce jigs with 1.5" slider grubs (color didn't seem to matter) trolled about 60 feet behind the boat at 1 to 1.5 mph. Second best was 1/16 ounce Taser jigs in chartreuse and blue. When the sun was out, the fish moved down near the bottom. Otherwise most were picked up at 8 feet deep or so.

    Great post
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

Boom! Way to go....you produced some fish for your uncle. That's a good feeling.
