Glad it didn't cause you to have a wreck. Not a good way to start out a day of fishing.

Please note, all owners of Karavan boat trailers, go out now and check your axles. NOW!!!!
I was headed to the lagoon to do a little salt water fishing in my Gheenoe this morning and bam my trailer wheel flopped over sidewise. I pulled over to the side of the road in the dark to see what the heck just happened. Could not see to well in the dark. Waited for an hour then called the wife and then called Huntinslabs. The wife drove over to where I was broke down and I went home to get my other trailer. Slid the Starcraft off of the trailer and went back to my broke down Karavan trailer and Gheenoe. Proceeded to slide the whole works onto the empty trailer. Strapped the mess down and headed home, thank goodness I was only 2 miles from home.
OK, I jacked the broken trailer up to find out what happened. Come to find out it was not a bearing problem but a rusted through axle!!! The trailer is aluminum, supposedly made to us in salt and fresh water and only two years old!! The axle was made out of thin cheap zinc coated steel!! So all of you Karavan trailer owners please go out and check your axles it may look OK but if you see any discoloration it may be rusting out from the inside.
Oh and buy the way I have an axle of of an old Dilly trailer that I replaced 10 years ago no rust!!! Used in salt water and not taken care of like I do now but no problems with rust. Good luck everyone.

Just glad it was not worse. Many places where you were headed that could have turned out very bad. Let me know if you need more help.
Good info. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your help Huntinslabs, could not have done it without your help...............
Sitting there for two hours and no one stopped. Back home there would have been a dozen people and two farmers with tractors wanting to help and find out what the heck I was up to....................

Glad you didn't have a bad wreck Andy and you were not hurt.
Close call Andy. Glad you got back home safely. Like to see some of those "saltwater" fish you've been catching...maybe sometime?

The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
Could have been much worse, glad it worked out. ATTABOY Huntinslabs. Do you have a line on the replacement axle yet? I was always treated well at B&g trailers on 92 east of Deland. ANd look at the setup they have for replacing and greasing hubs, it's an education. Good luck with it.
