Hello Everyone!
I am new to this forum, but I do enjoy to spec fish down here in central FL. Does anyone here have any pointers for fishing the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes? I fish here often but only catch a few small ones at night. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Ryan

The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"Speckanator LIKED above post
Welcome Ryan, I have had a few outings on the chain and its typically a rough going. The chain has been overfished the the overall current ecology is questionable (per locals). That said, I think you best bets right now would be Lake Rochelle and Lake Haines. The speck I've pulled out of Rochelle just don't seem as healthy in my opinion - some had size, but coloration was strange. I typically longline so my info is based on that style as well. I don't fish the chain anymore, there are better options in the area: Hatchineha, Kissimmee, Arbuckle, Rosalie, and even the Clermont chain isnt that far. Hope this helps!
A man remembered never dies.
Kissimee is starting to pick up at the edges...
I picked up, several this last week-end. It should only get better the next few months...

Caught a lot of decent sized specks at night in Rochelle. The deepest area of the lake is right off of the boat ramp. Start there and work towards the weeds till' you find em'.
Thanks for the post...never been over that way before. Good to know.

Highway 559 off I-4 comming south
Lake Julianna is good lake for crappie, also have new boat ramp on 559 making
it quite easy entry.
Lake Alfred in Auburndale also reasonably good crappie lake...........
Winter Haven chain is reasonably good for Bass. Spec's have not been all that
good over the years, believe it to be a lot of run-off polution, heavy pressure
from public. (most of these lakes should have 10" limit put on them)
Have tried to have several spec tournaments on chain past couple years, little to
no turn out plus catch size & rate was very poor on entire chain.
