Yeah, ya got to have a "breather hole", generally in the cap of the gas tank (portable) so, as the gas is sucked out it doesn't creat a vacume in the tank and
stop free flowing out, etc, etc ...
Most built-in tanks have a seperate breather tube somewhere in the top of the tank ..............
(I used to fabricate gas tanks for pleasure boats (hidden tank), etc, etc .......

Discount Auto has Seafoam for $3.00 off right now which is a pretty good price, buy a new primer bulb as they are cheap and try to find a small external gas tank and run your boat with this setup. This will help to start eliminating certain issues in your fuel system. Also try listing what motor you have and maybe someone might have a factory manual that could give you the resistance specs one some of your electrical components. Hopefully you can get lucky and find the problem. Good luck!

Motor is a 85 evinrude 235 hP ...i do need to buy a book if anyone has 1 they no longer need ..

1 guy in another section told me to pump the ball up with it pointing up right and i did it worked that way so i was just wondering if the check valve was bad would it do what mine is doing ..
i have had carbs off and looked in them clean but i didnt take the jets out ..
Had a speck of something in bottom of carb awhile ago. Did not missfire but would only idle. Seafoam is good stuff for desolving deposits but does not remove trash. Dissasemble carbs and blow out holes and ports.

No sense taking carbs off without cleaning jets ..........

I don't know if this applies or not but I had a problem with my 1985 70HP Johnson. I changed all the main fuel lines with ethanol resistant lines and still had a problem. It turned out the small hoses at the fuel pump had come apart internally as a result of the ethanol fuel. I replaced them and rebuilt the carbs and haven't had a problem since. Like Phantom says find some non ethanol fuel to use!
Had a problem with small hoses inside motor crumbling etc. Was told to replace with same size from motorcycle
repair shop and they would not break down as soon. No problem since.

Update i replaced the Primer bulb and tightened all clamps on the main line took it to the lake and it ran really good but still has the same problem but not all the time as it did .
i thought i heard air when i squeezed the primer so i wonder if i got a bad 1 .. also boat never idled this good so i guess i am headed in the right direction ..
going to run Seaform threw it and see if that fixes the rest of the problem ..
That's good to hear, sounds like you may be on the right track. I still think it would be good to try to run off an external tank to eliminate anything that might be causing an issue from your boats system, plus it would be a good way to put some Seafoam thru it. I'll check at work to see if anyone has a tank you could use, I'll let you know.
