Crescent vs Monroe

I vote Monroe for the same reasons Speckanator said. We love Crescent but don't know of any tent camping around there. If you haven't been on the St John's, if you go to Monroe you're right there with lots of options. The lake if its not too windy. The river if you want to try Jigging and get out of the wind. A great deli restaurant right on the water at boat tree marina, and if you feel like seeing the river and some manatees its a scenic, short, 7-8 mile ride up river to Blue Springs where 100's of manatees winter.

You can tent camp at Lake Monroe Park (not sure of the cost but sure is convenient to the lake and river. Or go a mile or so north down the river (it flows north) and there are several places to camp on the river for free. The spots are easy to pick out.

Or there's hontoon landing state park in deland which is on the st John's and just a short ride to lake beresford. Or blue spring state park which is in Orange city.

If its all about the fish, lake Monroe park on Monroe is my vote. Never been to Talquin but its on my bucket list!

They are making a great case for Monroe and that is a great option...however, if I knew of a camping area, I would vote Crescent simply because I like the idea of camping away from the city. Crescent is getting away, while Monroe is basically outskirts of Orlando.
I also like Talquin for the same reason I like Crescent...you're getting away where you can really see the stars at night. (hope you find a nice camping area, because it sounds like a great idea!)

It just came spilling out... Lol. After spending the last three and a half months in the area right on the river we have only good things to say about it. We had the best time with you ol goobers in your big fishin hole and on your pretty river... :-)

If you want to fish Crescent there is a campground on dead lake, it had a bait shop and a place to eat last time I launched there. There were multiple campers and tents. If the wind does start to roll out on Crescent, dead lake and hawg creek are an option to get outta the wind.

Restaurant closed and no tent camping. RV sites booked through April, only 25 sites etc. Flagler county took it over. Here's their site:

Of those 2 I would vote for Monroe, only because of the added river and the park is connected by path to Gemini Springs which is a very nice park as well with loads of wildlife along the path. But also check out longpoint Park in Sebastian. It is a mile north of Sebastian inlet, can pull boat to campsite and unbelievable snook, redfish and trout fishing. Very nice park as well with very few no seeums compared to Sebastian inlet State park. Man there is just soooo many great parks for camping in Florida it is unbelievable.
