    Default Woodruff 12-20

My Dad is down for the winter, and I had a weekday off, so we decided to try out the crappie scene yesterday. We ended up having a really nice day. They were all quality fish, unlike a couple weeks ago when I had as many throwbacks as keepers. Was great getting out to spend the day on the water with my Dad. He actually said this was the best Christmas present he could get. Can't beat that...

Had one really nice one. It was only 15", but it was a pig. Wish I would have had a scale to weigh it. My Dad catches longer ones up north trolling for walleye, but he couldn't believe how thick this thing was. This is my first season fishing for crappie in FL, so this may be the norm down here ?

Thanks again to all the folks that contribute here. I have learned a lot from reading the posts here.
    Merry Christmas

Yes, the crappie in the St. Johns River system lakes are frequently thicker than some of the fish you'll catch in other lakes. There have been some very large crappie caught in those lakes in years past. The last couple of years we haven't seen the real big ones, but 2 lbs is not so uncommon. Glad you caught some nice fish out there. I love that place.
