Hit Monroe yesterday at daybreak...set up for first drift in the brutal wind...2 off the bat, reset for second drift, winds got worse Decided to go over to the power plant side to get some wind relief, nothing on one drift. Went to Bethel Creek entrance, nothing....bass fished with minners & soft plastics, 1 dink bass. Went back out and set a drift in front of Stone Island, nothing. Went over around the overpass but 1 dink bass, pretty much called it a day. Moral of the story...12-14 MPH winds locally translates to 18-22 MPH winds on the lake with 2-3 ft swells.

We did pretty much the opposite. We didn't want to fight the wind so we stayed in the river (up near Highbanks... Snake River) and stayed out of the wind and used minnows and bobbers for the first time this season. Put boat in the pads, found a nice hole, chummed (and chummed) and even had a catfish pole out into the bottom of the creek with a bell on it so we would know when we had a hit. Had lots of fun... got one speck right away and missed one. Then nothing. Went back to Highbanks and got overpriced cheeseburgers for lunch to settle our beer... lol. Then we decided the wind would probably lay down some so had the idea of going out to Monroe. Headed out, got there about 4PM... swells were a couple feet high but manageable, we didn't have much time before dark so went about half way out, trolled back and caught 6 specks (5 keepers for dinner) and we were the only brave (or dumb) souls out there that we could see. No parking lot yesterday afternoon... lol. Headed back in before dark and had some fried and grilled catch of the day for dinner at the ol rv. We haven't figured out speck fishing on the river yet, but I have a feeling we will figure it out around January.
