Got out this morning at day-break only to find out 1 bait shop changed hours to open at 7am & other bait shop posted, on vacation til' oct. 4, so decided it was only goin to be road-runners & beetle-spins trolling today. Found feeding area with these fingerling mullet, in which (3) like the one in the picture actually had eyes bigger than appetite to try & take the road-runners. Lake Harney the place, action done by 10am, & all released to fight another day. Threw a few back before keeping for pics, so #'s are picking up, surface water temp 84F.

THE BEST TIME TO FISH IS WHEN IT'S RAINING AND WHEN IT'S NOT RAINING
Glad you got into a few today. Looks like you had a good time and a green carp to boot way to go! Just could not get myself talked into facing the heat today.
(Ain't no fish in Harney) ! ! ! ! !![]()

What are those things you are calling mullet?

Actually, had to look it up with the hundreds of different types of mullet. It's google-eye feature what made me 1st take notice. The picture didn't take that clearly, however, this is what it was, a fantail mullet, just couldn't get over the fact something this small would take a bait bigger than itself. Had that yellow spot on the gill.
crappie down !
No wonder the specks grow so fast, plenty of bite sized bait to eat.
Lived here all my life so far but never seen mullet small enough for specks to eat. Always thought they were saltwater fish that came into freshwater,
