Thread: longlineing on lake okeechobee

I know what you mean. The lake closest to me has standing timber in probably half the lake so there are just a limited amount of places where the shallows are clear bottoms and can be longlined in so I mostly fish a lake 30-45 minutes away.

Fortunately for me I live 7 minutes from Monroe and less than 3 from the river. Flip a coin in the morning to decide where to fish or look at the treetops for wind. I can longline either until the boat traffic starts on the river.

Actually yes I have seen it being done but you will need to know the lake pretty good and most of the action has been thru the main channels and keeping tight to the markers staying along the edge of drop off's .Yes they also do alot of spider rigging too and that produces well also. Some have done real well but they also have the electronics and topography maps to go along with knowing the lake and the gps location thats produced theyr hot spots . 497,000 acres is alot of water to cover and theyr in there for sure . It is one awsome lake to fish for sure but theres so many potential areas you could be out there for a month solid and still not cover enough water lol I will post the minuet i find out about southern lake okeechobee clewiston area slappin slabs im also waiting to here from old buddy who lives in moore haven what hes been doing this week which i will post hopefully before or on this friday . Swamptoad, I would love to go back with the technology we have today. All I had as a kid was a push pole and a anchor to feel the bottom.

Guntersville is the closest lake we have around here to compare it to. While no where near as big of a lake. It is full of weeds . I've left a trolling motor prop at the bottom to prove it:rolleyes:. We usually end up trolling the weed lines and main channel down there and have caught some nice slabs using the method i suggested. But like you said electronics and scouting potential trolling lines are a must to find the weed lines and the channels. Either way there is only one way to learn, get out there and try.
