I hope yall can get on em Stu...I'm like Speckanator...I can't go this week so I am hoping next week will be better.
Went Tuesday morning to Lake Harris. Tilt assist worked great, Maximizer speed control worked great, rods set up for longlining, pulled the paint off 10 jigs and haven't had the first bite. Went early to see if they were in the pads(specks weren't) something was knocking pretty good so either gills or shell crackers and haven't fished for either. Guess it's time for a night trip under the Howey bridge. Got the fever but think i'll go back to my 14' boat and 2 cane poles.--shu
<*(((((><
We used to dock under the bridge there just outside of Howey in The Hills and tie up to the pylons...I wished I could remember the pylon number...There was a trashpile there and we usually did pretty good there...Man, that brings back alot of memories!!!
Mike- Figurin' you were out a town last weekend eatin' crow sammiches, I decided to do a recon on Monroe last Sat. Beautiful sunrise no wind and 2 rigs at the 17/98 free ramp, initiated a picture perfect start to a not so perfect outcome. After gettin' all the 8 tight-line rigs in the water(7 foot) started having gar encounters. I was fishing about 1/2 mile before Stone Island when 2 gar decided to do a loopty-loop configuration with my 2 long rods (14's). Results were 2 cut offs and a mess. I decided to drop over my favorite dock shootin' rod- WM 4'6" w/Shimano Stradic 2000 in my mid boat rodholder. 7 fow w/ 5 foot of line out from the tip w/minnow tipped Pro RR gold willow blade. 10 minutes later, while busy reriggin, my little rod goes down then straight out from boat and then out of boat with the back of the gar in plain view. This all happened in what seemed milliseconds! As my combo hits the water, I swung the rod I had in my hand to try and wedge it in the handle area with a guide. Didn't work. Although I have preventative measures I use w/my long rods for longlining, lack of using these measures proved costly in this "safe" 7 fow straight-down presentation. After unsuccessfully using the tightline approach, I went to my forte of l/l... 1st pass yielded a 9" and later caught 4 more up to 10" It was now about 10 am with the wind pickin up some so I headed back to the river for some castin in the bright sunlight. Workin the shorelines I got 2 more small specks, 4 or 5 gils, and a Crackzilla that measured 9"(between the eyes, lol) Man those guys have attitudes. Pannies were hittin' Pink Charlie Brewer 1/16 heads w/blue/chartreuse Sliders. Left at about 2:30 somewhat dissapointed, but still a good, trouble-free day(except for losin' rod/reel,lol)
I will be at the KFC chowdown next weekend, thanks for holdin my brown wooden-handled chair on layaway. Seems like butt whippin at Throwdown got preference over my 1st pick up attempt.
u2s
u2s, I have two chairs...the other one is a vintage aluminum folder (I think blue and yeller) that was left at Crescent. I'd like to find it's owner also. If not we HAVE A DOOR PRIZE! Don't give up on that combo, I'm sure someone will find it eventually, clean it up and put it to good use. Look at it like sharing with a fellow fisherman.
