I've had so many days like that. Worst one happened this year.
First sunny Saturday of the year (in late March i think) here in Upstate NY. The forecast was for 55 and sunny, so I made plans to take my son and his best friend fishing for perch at a lake about 30 miles away.
Get the boat in the bed of the truck, load up all the gear, swing by and pick up my son's friend and head out to the lake. So far, so good. We're all in a great mood, excited to be getting on the water for the first time this year.
Well, we're going down this country road, I just told the boys I would drive by the taxidermists so they could see where my wife's pike was being mounted, like I said we're going down this country road, doing a nice legal 55mph and suddenly the engine in the truck quits. No bang, no cloud of smoke, it just stops running.
After killing the battery trying to start it, I call AAA and they tell me it'll be an hour or so for the tow truck to get there.
I'd say the day was a waste, but while we waited to be towed, the boys explored the ditch next to the road, we all joked around a bit, and managed to somehow have a little fun. I think it had to do with being in the good old outdoors on a sunny day, with good company, that made the day turn out OK even though the fishing trip itself was a disaster and it took me three days to figure out what had broke in the engine (oil pump drive gear stripped - also turns the distributor).
A sunny day in the great outdoors can often turn a disaster day into a fond memory.
