The funniest thing I ever caught was a fish! Wait, let me tell you the story.

A few of us had parked our folding chairs on the rocky shore of a small lake in Massachusetts (I was in the Army stationed at Fort Devens). It was early evening and we were out for catfish. I baited my hook, sent the cast out into the lake and sat down to enjoy the peace and quiet. Not too long and my rod tip started twitching. I got up, grabbed the rod and started reeling in slowly. I felt the line go tight and I set the hook. As I reeled in I got to my snelled hook and while there was no fish, there was a monofilament line wrapped around it. I grabbed the lines coming from the lake and started pulling it in, hand over hand. Before too long a small catfish emerged firmly hooked. I continued pulling in the other line and I was surprised to see a fishing rod with a Zebco 202 dragging up the beach. The rod was an inexpensive Walmart type and the Zebco still reeled, so it could not have been in the water long. I guess someone had the rod baited and sitting on a dock or something else when the small catfish took the bait, got hooked and took off with the rod and all.
