pocket knives

I really enjoyed reading this thread about carrying pocket knives. I have carried a pocket knife since I graduated from High School in 1978. My dad always carried one and I guess I got it from him. Now it seems a lot of the younger men no longer carried a pocket knife. It is so handy having a knife with you. I don't know how many time ladies especially younger ones have asked me to open or cut something for them and remarked how their dads carried a pocket knife and they don't know why young men don't carried one anymore. Anyway enough nostalgia, I carry a Boker most every day, small and flat. I have a small Buck lock back with a gold deer head inlayed on the silver bolsters for dressing up.

Most young men dont carry them because they have been banned in schools, considered a concelled weapon. They didn't grow up with the habit.

I have always carried a pocket knife. My wife hates it when I sharpen it, I shave the hair off my arm to see if its sharp enough. When I get a good clean shave its done.

I prefer Shrade, or Case knifes. When I was in the Marine Corp I had a reputation for being the guy who could sharpen any knife and would make a couple bucks sharpening knifes for other guys. The worst to sharpen was Buck knives, they dulled easy and didn't hold an edge worth a crap. Yes, I could even get a nice sharp edge on a K-Bar. :D

My wife and kids buy me a new blade every year. I have several still in the original packaging somewhere around the house.

Carried a case for years.Now new old stock Kissin Crane.Carbon blades only because I only have to hit it about 10 times on the rock and it shaves.Knife are like watches have to have one.You don't see this in the younger generation they use cell phones for the time.I traded in knives for about 2 years sold to all my friends. Now the market is saturated.

When I was just a small boy, maybe 10 or so I worked sometimes at this country store. I would pump gas or whatever and all these old men hung around there a lot. Typical way out in the country store and one was a knife trader, he always wanted to trade pocket knives with people. He asked me what kind of knife I had and I said well I don't have one with me. He said well hell son here I'm going to give you this knife and from now on you will have something to trade with. Ha I bet me and that old man traded knives 20 times after that back and forth.

i always thought you had to carry a knife. the only time i didn't carry was in school cause you'd get kicked out. i'm 46 yrs old and i carry an old cammilus whittler. had it since the 70's bought it new. i sometimes carry a differant brand thats still my favorite.

Heck I always thought it was a state law that if you were male you had to carry a pocket knife!!! Every boy in school had one, we even made leather sheaths for them in art class. My son was very worried about forgetting to take his pocket knife out some day and get caught with it in school. I told him if you realize its in your pocket, don't say a word and don't take it out, they ain't gonna search you. Of course its a small rural school so no metal detectors etc. I carry usually two one good sharp higher quality knife like a benchmade with a clip or even a Byrd or Gerber, and a rough duty pocket knife if the other pants pocket something like a camillus electricians knife with an edged blade and a screwdriver blade. Are you sure there isn't a law in the midwest that requires a boy to have a pocket knife?

I started off with a yellow bone handled case.It was a sad day when I lost it but has become routine. My current knife is a lockblade Cold Steel ( a Great wel made knife) with a paocket clip. I have actualy had it 5 yrs now! Like an earlier post, I cant walk to the mailbox without it. Everyone knows I carry one and not afaid to borrow. It is 4inches closed and I have got some looks in public if I get it out. Had the 2 3/4 version of it and lost it, I can feel this one in my pocket so no worries.

I used to carry one all the time. Then I reached a point where it seemed like every time I put on in my pocket I'd lose it. I lost several nice knives and I finally stopped carrying them. Then a few years ago I decided to start again but I haven't spent any real money on them. I just need something to open a box or some string or something, so it doesn't need to be expensive, just available. All the sudden though, I'm starting to lose them again. I carried a Gerber RipStop for a couple of years and lost it. Bought another one at Tractor Supply and lost it within 2 days!! I was P. O.'d. I just bought an Appalachian Trail (cheap Chinese crap, although it doesn't say China anywhere on it) at Lowe's and I thought I'd lost it a couple of weeks ago. It turned up in a pair of shorts right out of the laundry. I'd love to have a nice knife but I'd end up losing it if I did...
