Let me start by saying I am not afraid of many things. But snakes are one thing I am deathly afraid of. Sorry to offend anyone but my thinking is the only good snake is a dead one. Anyway on to my story.

We moved here to Ok in Sept of 2004. Just after we got settled in I took my kids fishing here on Lake Eufaula just a couple miles from our house. The kids were catching quite a few brim/bluegills. I wasn't having much luck with the bass. Anyway, my son was using a mico rod and real and hooked into a decent gill that was giving him some trouble getting to the shore. I walked over to him to coach him through it. He finally got it to the bank but had to drag it over some rocks that were about 1 inch under the water at the shore. As the fish crossed over the rocks this bright orange snake with a diamond patterned came out of the rocks and started chasing the fish. I grabbed the pole from my boy and lifted the fish out of the water. The snake came up on a rock about 2 ft below us. Of course this sent my daughter screaming towards the truck. I wanted so bad to follow and would have if I wasn't tryin to keep my boy from trying to get a closer look. It didnt scare him one bit. The snake itself just stayed there watching the fish sway back and forth in the air. I tried everything to make it leave and it wouldnt. I stomped at it. Kicked rocks. All it did was watch the fish and HISS. If the fish came close it would strike. I finally took the fish off the hook and tossed it by the snake. The snake grabed the fish, went back into the water and swam about 10 ft away and climbed back out onto another rock where we watched it eat the fish. To this day I still do not know what kind of snake it was. If it hadn't come out from under the water I would have swore it was a copper head. My daughter has not been fishing with me since. And I don't go much anymore and wont until I get a boat......lol
