    Default new 798

I just installed my new 798 and tried it for the first time. The first spot that I marked really surprised me when I caught 16 keepers right off the bat. My question is how far should the transducer hang below the transom ? When I loaded the boat up to leave the mount had popped up. I'm thinking I have it mounted to low. Also I've been using a Garmin 240 and the down sonar on the Hbird looks totally different. I can't tell anything from it. Other than that I love it. Very easy to use.

You may need to tighten the mount a little. Mine has popped up before and just needed adjusting. I would bet its fine. Rule of thumb of course is the horiz. center line of transducer should be level with the bottom edge of the hull. But the SI transducers usually need to be a little deeper so they dont lose bottom lock at high speed.

Post a picture of your installation and I am sure you will get some feed back. You can certainly stop by the SI forums and there are a lot of guys who could give you some more advice on placement.

    Good Luck,

    Robert

I have over half of it hanging down. I'm gonna raise it about half an inch and try it.Thanks for the reply RGecy.Wknd Warrior, the garmin actually looks more like a picture in black and white. The Hbird just looks like blobs of color to me.Guess I just don't know how to interpret what I'm looking at yet.

On the 997 with the large transducer, bottom is the size of a ten dollar bill HB recommonds the ducer Horz line (bottom of ducer) be 1/4 deeper than bottom of boat to get good signals re clean water. depending on boat deep-v, rivets etc u may have to go slightly deeper or not......I bet 798 ducer placement is same....
