Default First Post - New to C.com

    Hi guys,

I've been around forums for about a decade and have my own that I manage for the retriever community.

I wanted to quickly say "Hi" and see what you guys know about my new trolling motor. I've got a first grade son and one two years younger than him, and we are all pretty psyched to get into the Lake Shelbyville crappie. This weekend, we are converting our duckboat to a fish-catching rig.

I have an aluminum 17 foot boat with the bowmount bracket already in place. I went with the MinKota Edge 55 lb foot control unit that Rogers Sporting Goods had in their recent flyer. It also came, at a very competitive price, with a depth finder (Humminbird pirhanamax 215).

I ordered the quick-release base, to make it pop off for quick removal.

You guys may see me on here from time-to-time as I try to put these young boys on some fish.

    1) anybody have any experience with the MinnKota Edge unit I got, or wtih the depth finder? Any comments or suggestions?

    2) any suggestions on mounting or placement of the depth finder?

Thanks much guys! I'm glad to be here!

    Chris

Welcome and that sure is a good picture of the crew...can't help on the TM but I am sure somebody will come along and speak up.

    Thumbs up

Welcome to dot com---good lookin crew you got there--that looks like you have a sounder on the console--I,d mount the HB on the TM ---I think I get more good out of transducer on the trooler than the one on the transom --sure hard to stay on a stump or brush pile without one one the TM

    Thanks Frank!

I neglected to mention that I got the transducer mount to go on the bottom of the TM. Will definitely put the new unit up front. We have a 40 HP 4 stroke Honda and it pushes that transom down pretty low. Having fat dad up on the bow will keep things leveled out!

Regarding mounting, I am still unsure exactly where to put the display unit for the bow finder. I want to make it removable for duck season
As I am sure that the decoy loads with fat guys in waders will surely lead to broken stuff if not.

I have the grooved gunwhales and may be able to put carriage bolts there with wingnuts. Or I may try those rivnuts and mount elsewhere upfront but not right on the gunwhale.

Any suggestions on where/how to mount the bow depthfinder?
