There's software out there that can help you do this. I used a free piece of software called EasyGPS (it's on the web), then after a few years upgraded to ExpertGPS. I used the EasyGPS to transfer waypoints to and from my Garmin 76.

Should be easy enough is the wire unit to unit or unit to computer? Was there no software that came with the wire?

No software, was told easy gps off the net would work. Puzzled as it says 9600 baud and old etrex puts out 4800?

So it's unit to computer? Since it's the same file format for each unit you should be able to copy to your computer unhook it and transfer to the new unit. Just check Garmins (?) website if you need more info or steps to do this.

EasyGPS is helpful for managing your waypoints-re-naming, segregating by lake (if you outrun your GPS memory). My Garmin required a serial computer hook-up, but the new ones probably take usb. Anyway, just download the software, configure it for your unit (there's a list that you can pick from), and go from there. You can download your waypoints and routes, save them in a file, then upload them to your other unit.
