Default similar to this one (Ebay)

I used a circuit similar to this one. I disconnected the heat sink (block aluminum) from fets and screwed fets to the stereo amp box. See what i mean?

Thanks for your thoughts! I appreciate everyone's feedback. I contacted the company to confirm that the rheostat would work on 12 V DC motor, and the reply I got back was ambiguous. They said if it didn't work, I could return it. It seems like it was a simple yes/no question, and I'm not going to order it to find out it doesn't work.

Good suggestions on looking for wheelchair speed controllers. I'll see if one of those will float my way.

Thanks for suggestions to just upgrade my trolling motor. I'll keep it in mind for when my current gear gives out.

Heres the one I use now. Most all of the boards you find now have reverse polarity protection. I wouldn't trust the chinese to have the protection.

Something else to consider is your prop. If you are running a 2-blade, see if you can borrow a 3-blade to see if that makes a difference. Cheap and easy fix. 3-blades are usually a little slower.

    Default Speaking of props

You can cut the blades down some. This works too. The prop ends can be square. Balance it like you do a lawn mower blade. I have hacked up some blades in my lifetime.:o

If you know a machinist, they can turn the prop on a lathe. Works good.

Very interesting, lowering the resistance on the prop would have to translate to lower load on the motor resulting in less draw from the battery. That would help me because I do the slow trolling anyway.

    Thanks Mr. CP
