Thread: Optima batteries

Since I switched to Optima I havent had any battery problems. This has been 4 years and counting. I got tired of replacing the wet cell batteries. Went through 4 of them in 3 years so in my opinion they are worth it. You can calculate the cost of one against the other but but when you have piece of mind that your batteries are going to do what they need to do when they need to do it, that adds value in my book. i just lost confidence in the wet cell batteries. Plus you wont have acid corrosion problems either. Billy

yes get the lagrest that u can i got 2 troll furry which are 24volt in one battery and can be setup on a duel bank battery charger so u get 4 battery and only have to have a 2 bank charger and i love them can go 3 hard days on the water be 4 i have to charge them

Optimas are better in some respects, but worse in others. They tolerate abuse that will destroy conventional batteries. Letting them sit for months without charging them is no problem.

They charge more quickly because of lower internal resistance.

On the downside, they are very small capacity compared to conventional batteries in the same price range. Only 150 or 155 RC, compared to bigger TM batteries at 225RC. That's a huge difference if you troll. More than an hour of run time at a medium speed. Another thing that takes some getting used to is the discharge curve. When they start to go dead, they do it quickly with very little warning.

are they about the same weight for similar juicage?

thats all i run now is the optimas, no more battery troubles more time fishing, they recharge great, and stay charged for longer lengths, i can troll hard all day now and never have to worry, i run a crap load of electronics, etc. on my boat and the optimas have never let me down, its more of a piece of mind issue with me, i know that is one less thing i need to worry about, had mine 3 years already and no probs at all

wasabi, yeah they weigh about the same as similar sized acid batteies. I have a 34 and a 31. Billy

I switched to optima batteries 2 years ago and have never looked back. Have a minnkota 2 bank charger hooked to them both. ONe is for hte trolling motor and the other is for the big motor and accessories. Lighter, safer, and they will hold a charge for a long period of time. ALot of times i will go out fishing in the morning, fish for 3 or 4 hours, and when i plug the charger in when i get back, both are still at full charge (as measured by the minnkota lights). They cost a little more, but i have never been let down by them.
