Default First Fish Finder and GPS setup

I am in the process of buying my first fish finder / GPS unit and if possible I would like to hear some feedback on some recommendations from all you crappie masters out there that have been using them for years.

I am all ears on this one, wanting to get the best that I can afford as well as easy to read with a good display.

    Any helpers out there

Lowrance 520C if you can find one. They are being cleared out for the new units. There will probably be plenty of good used 520 series units available as the HDS units start replacing them.

Virtually the same interface as all Lowrance units, even the low-end ones. I have an X96 and the interface is very similar. The unit can do a lot, so there are a lot of features to learn, which can be a little overwhelming at first, but any Sonar/GPS will be the same.
