I just trim my motor up a bit. I can still run the boat and scan.

I mounted my transducer about 12" away from the motor and directly on the transom. I do not have any issues with scanning.

Also, when you mount. Be sure the transducer is level in the water. Make sure you compensate for any leaning the boat may have when it is sitting in the water.

Sorry Dude it works way past 4mph, I can only get 38mph out of my boat and it works awsome.

Look at the definition in the shot that I posted @ 18 mph - what is wrong with that?

RappRunner ?! that is beautiful as far as I am concerned, but I do not know what I would do if I could see that good, I am useing a Humminbird that cost me 251.39 and when I bought it I was told there was nothing better and it had a lifetime warranty, I have however never had to take it in for service.
It is old enough to vote as of this year I purchased it in 07-19-1988.
It is a portable unit called LCR 2000, I thought that 251.39 was bigger than a bed blanket back then and now I just drool over somethin like what you have.
    hahahahaha
Wishin ya all a very nice day to spend fishin.

You don't have to worry about it. Even with the motor totally down you can see OK and a little better if it's trimmed up just a little. No need to spend anything extra.
    Good fishing.
