i dont think you will have much of a problem with having the SI unit on a Alum boat at all...what i would watch is mounting the transducer too low on the boat...reason being is its a expensive ducer...about $300 bones...if you mount it up higher it will still read ok as far as the SI part goes but most use the second transducer for high speed running...the ducer is a lot cheaper..bout $60 and you dont have to have a switch you can also get a "Y" cable that will plug into the back of the SI head and one end of the Y will go to the SI ducer and the other to the second high speed ducer...having it this way the SI ducer will only read water temp and SI...the high speed will be sonar only
the Switch they have was mainly designed for the older SI units like the 987s where the Y cable will not work with them for some reason
