You should get one that exceeds your max motor current draw so you don't burn it out. Or, in my case, I only intend to use it while going slow (and thus low current draw) so I would add a bypass switch for whern I need to kick it in high gear. Or put a circuit breaker on it.

You need to know the stall current of your motor. The stall current can not exceed the Max amp rating of the PWM supply. You let the smoke out, it won't work. Max continuous current output must exceed the stall current, ignore the momentary short circuit protect current rating.
