I have just been sitting back and reading what you guys like and dislike about the HB SI's. I need a new trolling motor worse than the SI right now so the SI will come later.
My question, Is the GPS problem with marking a distant brushpile and then accurately navigating back to it? This would be one of my main reasons for getting one. Can the unit display the coordinates as it marks the brushpile and can those be entered into my ETREX handheld for more accurate relocation?
Listening to Jeff White and some of the other guys I think I'll opt for the 997 over the 700 series that I was looking at. Sounds like I don't need to rush into this thing as they don't seem to have the bugs all worked out yet.

That's what my buddy has to do with his 997. I have mine linked to my matrix 87c on the bow and when I get close I just jump to the front to find it. It is almost impossible with the 797 alone.

I have a 997csi and I dont have any problem finding brush or locating it once I have marked it. If you read the book CAREFULLY it will tell you how to do this properly. The 2009's will have an even more accurate gps. One meter! There is an unofficial web site for Hummingbird on Yahoo. It is run by guys who work for Humm'brd. I have gotten a lot of good help from them.
Thanks guys, I definately don't want to buy this SI but one time. Sounds like the new 50 channel recievers may help a little. I wish more people that have them will post more pics of stakebeds, PVC, ect.

As posted above by lonkmthe Hi accuracy ant. Referred to in above post can only be gotten/bought as an optional accessory for I believe $199.00. Supposed to be good to one meter or less....If you read the book CAREFULLY it will tell you how to do this properly. The 2009's will have an even more accurate gps. One meter! There is an unofficial web site for Hummingbird on Yahoo.
The new standard 50 channel ant that comes with ALL the new 2009 models, & can also be bought for $149.00 is supposed to be good to 2 & one half meters or less. The old 16 channel ant. that came with earlier units is supposed to be good to 3 meters or less Needless to say the problem of SLOWGPS cannot be resolved with a new ant/puck or with the instruction book cause the fault is in the working of the main unit processor itself.

Thanks jaxsprat, I was hoping you would comment on this. Anybody,What problems exactly does the slow GPS cause? Also, in 8 feet of water, how far out to each side can I expect to cover?![]()

Slow gps will only come into play if you are pinpoint fishing mats. We get to the mat, throw a marker and use the marker. Windy days with no bouy may be a little aggrevating but no big deal.
