    Default Rivets and side imaging

I was thinking about welding strips of aluminum over the rivets on the bottom of my boat to see if it would help my 797 show better detail.Has any one tried this and if so what wre the results?

Just curious as to why you think it would help any at all?

I really wonder if anything we do will help the 797 Except dropping that extra $1000 bucks on a larger unit.

Did your old sonar work well? Have you tried different positions under the boat for Transponder location? Maybe trolling motor mount?

Just thinking it would not catch air as bad as the rivets.

Air? When they're in the water? The rivets should have no effect whatsoever on the image the ducer produces unless the ducer is not installed correctly and you have cavitation. Hope this helps.

Also, you should only be going 2-6 MPH, so there shouldn't be much air anyway.

I am thinking about upgrading to the 997 series and putting the 797 up front.Does the 997 work good on a riveted aluminum boat?

Default reply does the 997 work better

The best info I got came from guys on this site , I have a 17 ft aluminum , Take a level out on the water and get a reading vertical and horizontal from a spot on the boat you can reproduce out of the water while the boat is on your trailer , when you go home put a jack under the trail to reproduce the reading you got on the lake horz. and vert. , then go down to your transducer and check horizontal and vert. on the ducer , after that ,kick the transducer down in the rear just about 5 degrees , lock it down that gave me the best picture I have gotten on my 997. but set your speed to match the 3-5 miles per hour on the unit for best results only look out the side of the transducer 65 ft each way you can go farther out in deeper water. Hope this works for you it sure helped mine thanks to wiskers Jwhite jax . for there help
