Are you talking about the antenna? If so, the 520c and the 522ci are basically the same unit other than the 520 takes an external attenna. That's what I have now and is going on the project boat. The 522ci has an antenna that is internal. No cables or antenna to get in your way.

I don't know if the internal antenna is as effective and the external, or visa versa, or if there is any dif at all.

I have only played with mine (520c) a little sitting in the living room and it takes it about 5 secs to find the position once it's fired up.

I have a 5200c and a 5300c--one internal--one external both mounted in the open
The internal updates and stays locked on better ???
