Installation was not bad, instructions were good. I may have to fabricate a spacer bracket to move the transducer back about 3" as I may have some interferance from the lower unit on the right side (on a pontoon), if the right side signal is not good it will be no problem to correct. Would have done it today but was running out of daylight. Also had to get a floor flance to screw a 4' extension to raise the GPS puck above the bimmini top.
Have a lake test planned for tomorrow. We have a friend who is experienced with a 997 & have his number on speed dial & will probably heat up the airways with questions.
I will try to post tomorrow evening the results of the lake run.

GPS puck installation. Plan to make the mast fold down but at the present it only takes about 30 seconds to unscrew & store.

I just finished installing mine. I will get out sometimes this week. I doubt I'll ever learn all the things I need to know about this thing.
Very nice GPS puck mount Hotmod. Is that conduit or pipe? And how did you get the thread to match up. Isn't GPS antenna threads an oddball? Let me know the details because I want to do the same thing to both my boats. Although, I am only going 8-12" with them.

That is just 3/4 galvanised pipe. The thread in the puck base is 3/4"X14 thread which is the same as a 3/4" pipe thread. It would not start because the pipe thread is tapered so i took a 3/4 pipe tap & some wd 40 & gently cut the threads in the adapter a little deeper. Just be careful & only go about a round at a time with the tap & then clean the abs plastic from the threads. It took about 15 minutes to cut the threads out, just be careful & don't get in a hurry & put too much pressure on the base as it could split. If you don't have a tap just about any plumber or machine shop will have one or you can buy one for about $10.00-$15.00 at Lowes or home depot.
I am planning to make a hinge to where the mast will fold down to the back of the boat to be out of the way for storage.
I feel that having the GPS puck up above the top for a 360 degree view of the sky is the seceret to good GPS performance
