    1. A number of fishing forums and web boards such as:
    BBC
sideimaging : UnOfficial Humminbird Side Imaging Group
The Bass Fishing Home Page™ -- fishing reports, fishing articles, fishing tactics, fishing message boards, boating info, stories, tackle information.
Unofficial Humminbird Side Image Forums www.sideimageforums.com :: Index
These boards are not official boards or supported by Humminbird. My point is that engineers from Humminbird frequent these boards to provide free customer service. As I used to be a huge Lowrance supporter and user, they do not hold a candle to the customer service and support from Humminbird.

    2. Service downloads are free and come to you automatically if and when you register your unit on their website. Do you think they should discuss their list of future software upgrade and patches on their website? If so, they would be the first company to do it. Show me where Garmin, Lowrance, Eagle have done so. I have owned all three of those and have had problems with all three that had to be "fixed" with software upgrades and patches.

    3. Just my opinion, but I think my 997 would be worth every penny I paid even if it had no GPS capability at all. The SI function of the unit has made me a much better fisherman and saves me TONS of time. I can make a sweep or two in a cove and in the matter of minutes instead of hours, find the structure and fish.

When the software patch comes out to update the GPS, that will just be icing on the cake.

Some people you just can't please.
All these folks want is what they DID pay for. They didn't get it. They were sold a bill of goods that has a flawed performance. Now, if HB cuts the price by, say 35% for what they currently offer, or fixes the problem, then I might buy one of their super-fine side imaging units.

I'm not hard to please, just gimme what I pay for, without gouigin me again for the fix--especially when I'm payin TOP DOLLAR for the toys--.

If you bought a unit knowing its shortcomings, then you have no gripe-agreed.

I'll be glad when HB responds and fixes the system. I'd like to have one, but not until it is a top performer.

I am still going to buy a Humminbird SI but with all this discussion going on I think that I'll move it way down the priority list. Going for new trolling motor, more rods, ect. first.

I have a 997on my console and a 917 on the bow, and I like the units. I've had Garmin, Eagle and Lowrance over the years, and they all had their shortcomings. All in all, the HBs are good, and the SI is really something.

Mike, they're not saying that the unit is junk. Just that it's not giving them everything they paid to use. No doubt the SI is an exceptional tool, but if you charge me an extra $500 for GPS, make it worth the money. When they make a version without GPS, i'm all over it. I know my money will be well spent. Enjoy your unit. I just believe in the old saying, " get what you pay for ".

    Thumbs up

I have two HUMMINBIRD units 777 and 797 and both work as advertised. no problems. not eaven with the gps. it gets me close, and all they advertised was the gps was a nav guide.and thats what I use it for is a guide not a life saving device that I want to nav. to the distant planets. just my opinion....

I haven't had any problems with my GPS. Of course, I may not know enough to know what I'm missing.
