Well, after going back and forth on which FF to buy I went with the HB 383c. A little more than I was going to spend, but I liked the GPS/FF as a unit and the color screen. My handheld GPS is getting old , so I thought I would give this unit a try. There was so many nice fishfinders out there that it really makes it hard to decide on which one. Thanks everyone for your help.

I just bought a 2nd hand 383c and I have only used it once. So far I like it.It does everything I wanted in a combo unit except it does not take a card. The map that is on it is all you can get....Unless somebody knows something I dont.....I have heard nothing but good things about the 383c...I'll put it to the test staring next month. Let me know how you like it.

I believe the only difference between the units will be the stated output in watts. The more watts, the better the return and the easier it is for the unit to seperate targets. To some, this is very important, to others, they can't tell the difference. As for me and how "good" I am at interpreting what I see, I can't see the difference. I'm sure there is a difference, but I'm not "good" enough to tell it. In addition, the way I fish, I'm not worried about what I see within a brushpile, I'm only interested in finding the brush in the first place. I use a 12ft Sam Heaton to confirm what's in and what is not in the pile.

That said, it depends on what you're relying on the unit for.

Whoops, I didn't read all the responses before I posted I guess. That 383c TNT bought was mine. Like him, I only used it once maybe twice after I bought the boat it came on, but I was pretty impressed with it. I think you'll be happy with the fish finder part of it, but I can't say about the GPS. I really didn't get to play with that feature on the 383C much before I took it off the boat.
