He will need to know which Model of depth finder you plan to use this with.
The transom speed sensor for model of depth finder will be modified with bearings and an small pin axle with a small prop attach on the end of it. Then it is mounted on a bracket to be placed on the foot of your trolling motor. Mounting it on the trolling motor keeps it in turbalent free water so it will stay steady and accurate. I can't remember the price but I think it is around $100 but it is well worth it if you are a serious trolling.

I have a 522. Lowrance replaced my 332c with it. I'm having a problem of getting the speed to show on the map side. Just talked to Linda Colt and she thinks my unit is defected. I will send it in Monday.
