Best way to clean the connections is with an eraser from a pencil. Might have to shape the erraser a bit with a knife to get it in there. CAREFUL not to bend the prongs. Past that, a Q-tip with some alcohol. Once cleaned, you can dab a bit of dielectric grease for electrical fittings to cut down on the corrosion and keep it from coming back. Available at any parts house - O'reillys has them at the counter in single serving packs for something south of a quarter.

Very good advice, especially about the eraser. If the rubber has hardened, don't use it.
