I second that - they good folks. I sold the flasher that came on my
boat, needed the dough somewhere else - but still got Vexilar edge 3
and like it purty good.

Called Vexilar Product support and yakked for an hour. I covered everything I could remember about my old flasher traits and compared them to the FL 10. The customer guy went into detail as to how the unit worked. It still works basically as the old Green Box (spinning disc). He told me how the display changed colors. He also told me I could hear it run and feel the "thump" on the transducer.
Also, he told me the warranty was transferable (a warranty is a warranty if you are confident in your product). His words. Great.
Vexliar was very open about their product. They were not trying to hide trade secrets from me.
Nice folks. Great customer relations.
I know flashers work at high speeds and I know they work in shallow water. It is the ultimate real time sonar. And, I knows how to use it, but it has been awhile. Been too absorbed in picture displays.

The FL 10 came with a training "how to" video. I can take the cd with me on the boat.
I don't believe I will need it though.

I've never played with this stuff on my Lowrances but both of them have a mode that is suppose to act like a flasher. On the X102 its called Fastrack and on the LCX27 its called Flashgraf. Here is a brief description from one of them.
When you boost ping speed and switch into HyperScroll, the width of
the FasTrack bar graph display doubles at the right side of the screen.
This allows you to see the virtually instantaneous sonar returns better,
just as you would on a flasher sonar unit. For more information on
FasTrack, see its entry in this section.
Anyone ever try this stuff?

I have tried the flasher mode on Lowrance graphs. IMO they have the same lag time as the graph itself.
Never had my 18 in the boat but i do use it for ice fishing. I wont leave home without it. Watching the action, real time, is like playing a video game. I love teasing the fish into biting. Ask any ice fisherman that uses one and they'll tell you the same as i have. Cant beat real time sonar.
Maybe I'm missing or not understanding sumptin. And that is very possible. While trolling I can lower a jig inder the xducer and see it. It appears as a straight line since it is moving along with the cone. I can raise or lower it and watch it on the screen as I do it. Is this not real time?

"Sometimes old and simple is good."
I spent $500 on a remanufactured Edge2 from Vexilars site. Replacing a techically advanced color Lowrance unit that had issues.
Thinking to myself I must be crazy the Edge2 new is around $700 and black & white.
When I got it in the mail and opened it up and saw how well the unit is constructed with duel transducers I could see the price point.
I then installed it in my boat and went out on the water. The Edge2 work flawlessly and with great Visitbility without the back light on . The range and sensitivity worked great in the auto mode . Said to myself now this is how a graph is suppose to work.
Awesome unit with a 2 year warranty.
I then learned how flashers work through Vexilars videos on their site and the DVD they sent with my graph. Flasher is a must have for any serious fisherman. Vexilars service also supports their older units. They don`t tell you though luck on a 4 year old unit (buy a new one) like some other companys do.
I learned that simple and working is way better than latest and greatest. I might have to eat a $500 X510c that has no fix from Lowrance. My Lowrance X75 was a great sonar before the X510c so called upgrade should had stayed with the x75.
My new Vexilar is even better with company support to back it up.

Bout as real time as it comes.
The flasher will shoot thru thick brush and you can spot fishes inside the brush. Can't easily do this with a graph, any graph. But, I am sure there are folks on C.Com that can do this. Some of 'em on here even claim they walk on water. Too much trouble for me. I set all my stuff to automatic. I am lazy. I am just looking for the structure. I turn the fish ID on. My wife don't have a clue what an arc is. Sometimes I don't either. I can use it if I have to though. I am rambling.
Besides, the FL 10 flasher ain't got but 1 knob.
