just noticed it says 120 V 60 hz AC only... Didnt notice this when i bought the light. What kind of lights do i need to use? I also bought one of those rope lights and cut the wires... connected them straight to the battery and it doesnt work also. I guess I am using the wrong stuff? Like i said, i know absolutly jack about electricity. I figured you could connect anything to a deep cycle battery and it'd work until the battery died...

12 volt dc lamps. Get them at rv stores. They screw into same sockets as 115vac bulbs.
Don't feel bad. I done it before and I am supposed to know better.

If you wired direct and your connections are a-okay, then you should have power to the receptacle. Now, to eliminate the light problem without the benefit of good tools, find another DC component and plug it in. It THAT component works, then your light becomes extremely 100% suspect. If you get "nuttin" from your second component, then your circuit is where I'd focus my attention. Go borrow a volt meter and save some time and cussin'!

Make sure you're using 12 volt light if you're rigging crappie night-lights etc. Make sure your battery and the connections are good-to-go and not jury-rigged just for the "test."

Like Tom said, fuse the positive to prevent an overload/wires melting/and more cussin'.
