    Default Navionics Maps ain't right..

I believe I stated before that The Navionics seemed to be just water colored Nad 83 datum. Here is the Gold and the Hotspot maps of the same location. Nothing aligns. Looks like somebody just used Paint and Filled in the spots.

The bread crumb is what I am gonna map out, but I could not use this Navionics to go by. This ditch is 60 - 80 foot wide. Where is it on the map?

I can stay in the main channel (maybe).

Hard for me to use these maps to search for the goodies.

Navionics Gold + map of area.

Have you looked at the SonarChart view? Many times its more detailed than the Gold or Premium layer

    Canepole:

Funny you brought this up. My partner and I recently purchased a Navionics chip to use while tournament fishing and unfamiliar body of water. The first day of pre-fishing, we put the chip in and ran to a spot. The water column was off by a little bit but that could be due to the water being higher than when it was originally mapped. We didn't fish long on this day. Day two of pre-fishing found us in another location. I was noticing some pretty different stuff on my sonar that did not correlate to what the Navionics chip was telling me. I switched over to my Lowrance map and was blown away by how much was missing. All the little channels, high spots, rock piles, sunken islands. I could not fish this particular stretch of water without the Lowrance map. The Navionics maps were garbage for this area.

They failed to map several creeks on Nimrod . The depths / drop off / channels are off anyway . We paid good money for Platinum chips and got short changed here .

It is cost prohibitive for any map company to put the surveying boat over every inch of every body of water ...

The gaps must be "interpolated" (filled in) by other sources ...

This is exactly why there are disclaimer clauses on GPS Chart plotters and mapping products to never use the single map source as a definate basis for safe boat tracks ...

This is a mighty old post (2008). I fixed the problem with a Lowrance with Insight Maps.

Kirth may have been searching the keyword "Navionics" ... as he is our resident Navionics expert ...
