Do I NEED gps?
I mainly fish the same two or three lakes. For those of you that have a gps on your fishfinder I was wondering if you wouldn't fish without one or is it a nice toy that will hardly be used? For instance,I have a fishfinder that is mainly just a depth finder to me,because when the crappie are in shallow they don't show up on the fishfinder,of course.

yes, definitely get one. it will save you so much time locating cover out in the lake. with gas like it is you'll save fuel too.

It is nice to have and will save you some time if you use it properly. However you certainly can get by without it. People fished for what, ten or twenty years, maybe more, (10,000 years?) without them... I love mine!---Pooch

I would say yes to your question dallas1. I would be lost without a GPS unit. If I find a brush pile with fish on it I will mark that spot and now I will always know where the spot is year after year without trying to remember if is close to a boat dock and trying to line it up with a tree on the other side of the lake. When you mark the spot it will always be there for you.

thanks for your input. Can I get the same or comparable fishing/lake maps for a handheld that I can for a combo gps/fishfinder?

Do I need a GPS? You will Never lost again with one
Do I need a GPS? You will Never lost again with a GPS unit! When you think you maybe lost or even just turned around just check your GPS. It may tell you your at N35 30 35.7 W92 06 33.9 See your no longer lost
Then if you know the boat ramp is at N35 30 35.7 W92 06 33.9
Beware of driving in a straight line, you may have land between N35 30 35.7 W92 06 33.9 and N35 30 35.7 W92 06 33.9 Now if you had a GPS with mapping you would know this
