I have a nice 46lb motorguide that I would like to convert to hand opp? Any one ever done this, or should I just sell it, and buy the one I need?
I consider myself the poster-boy for the foot controlled trolling motor haters. Do yourself a favor, and get rid of it, and get a hand held (transom) style. I'd used a hand held on a 14' jon boat for many years, and bought a new Tracker in '04. Yep, they come with a f/c Motorguide. After the 2nd trip, I needed anger management help. This motor had to go. I sold it for $100, and got a 54 lb. hand held (transom) style, immediately removed the front deck, installed a pedestal base at the very front of the deck without any need for stretching to operate, and went back to fishin' instead of fighting the f/c pedal. It's for some folks..........it ain't for me. I spider rig a large percentage of the time, and installed 2 more bases in the deck for double seats. How do I operate the trolling motor that far back? I got a Helm's Mate extension with a u-joint that attaches quickly to the t/m handle, installed an on/off foot switch in the circuit, and can steer/control/cut on-off-reverse without ever looking at the t/m. I wouldn't have it any other way. I Love It!!!!
