    Default SI and PVC

Somebody show me a pvc tree with their SI unit. Just curious if we couldn't start a sticky with pictures of neat things discovered using the Side Imaging? I think that it may help with understanding exactly what is being shown and how and it may just be really interesting to boot. I am planning on purchasing one of these units when the funds come available and I am trying to shorten my learning curve.

So if you have one of the new SI units please post up a picture of a pvc tree if it will show it and post some other neat structure (old bridges, culverts) or junk found on the bottom of the lake.

When I figure out how to get pictures from here to there I'll do just that. Bought 997 and have been playing with it instead of fishing. It's so fascinating. First trip out saw a boat hull laying on bottom with square hole cut in it. Found remains of old wooden bridge. Took snapshot of a fish house that I put in lake made out of 200 gal. plastic tote tank. You can see metal cage around tank and bamboo that I stuck out of all four sides but not the 2inch pvc that I stuck out the top. I'll figure this picture thing out in time.

I forgot that the pvc may not show up. Do you think that larger pvc would? How is pvc different than say, a five gallon bucket, or a large plastic drum?

Save the Pictures to a SD card. Then at home take a SD reader and load the shots on your PC. I move mine to my Photobucket.com. And then the its just copy and paste it in the postcard deal above.

    Default fish tank

OK folks, let's see if country has come to town. This is the 200 gal plastic tank. It has galvanized cage around it with metal plate about 10 inches by 30 long on the side that you can see, that was the contents placard. I stuck bamboo about 12-14 feet out of all sides and you can clearly see the bamboo and fish in it. What you can't see are the 12 pieces of 2.5 inch pvc pipe sticking straight up 8 ft. toward the surface. I wish now I'd have taken a picture before I put it in the water. I will on next one. Now back to the original question. As in Ernest's snapshots as well as mine, you don't and won't see the pvc unless that beam hits perpindicular and reflects squarely back to transducer. Am I correct?

Not true, the pvc will show up just like the wood or boo will. You said the pvc was sticking straight up. All you would get is an echo off the 2" end of the pipe if you were above the barrel. Too small to see. from the side you would see the shadow. Notice in my pictures, what you see is the shadows, the small white echos of the pipe blend in with the bottom.

Here's Bills picture. Looks like he's looking straight down on it so the PVC would not show up.

I didn't record my settings when the pix were taken. need to do that.

Other than the scan width I usually use the factory settings.
