Make sure you have the latest software. http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads...tware-Updates/

If you call Lowrance, this is probably the first thing they will have you do.

Note: A hard reset deletes stored GPS data such as waypoints and trails. Copy them to a MMC or SD card if needed.

    1. Turn unit OFF
    2. Press and hold the the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at the same time
    3. Press and hold the PWR key
    4. A tone will sound
    5. When tone is sounding, release buttons and immediately
press and hold the FIND key.
    6. While pressing FIND, a higher tone will sound
    7. The unit will reset. Turn unit OFF and back ON.

totally black or just darker, as soon as i turn mine on the backlight goes out, and it is hard to see in certain conditions, hit power agian for a second and the backlight will come back on, it goes out to save batteries, you can go to menu to set light to stay on longer, i hope im not stating the obvious but when i first turned mine on i thought this screen is to dark and i can not see it, but after reading and playing with it i figured it out, good luck.
