Got a 55lb 48" MK with US2/AP. For some reason from time to time the depth finder (HMBD 717) goes crazy and there is a ticking sound from the top of the MK while using the AP. The depth readings and screen don't show correctly. It sometimes is when I change speeds in the wind or then sometimes when running the same speeds for long periods of time. Slowing down seems to correct it but some times not. Ideas please? Thanks.![]()

My AP ticks when it makes small direction changes. I don't hear very well, but I hear the tick. Is sonar connected the TM battery?

My old power drive did that a time or 3. And it was the connection cord. Unplugged it and plugged it in again. And it worked right from then on.

I had the ticking problem but it wasn't the AP causing it. It was the US echoing back up the tube. I could turn the DF off and it would go away. Or change the ping rate and the ticking noise would change accordingly. I don't remember it affecting the display, the ticking just drove me nuts. I put a lower powered DF on it and it cured the problem most of the time. I've since found that the original US was only a 12° cone so I put an external xducer on the TM and have no problems at all. Try contacting MK and see if they have come up with a fix for this.

D/F is connected to T/M batt, will switch it over to cranking batt, this one has the US2, seems the ticking sound happens at the same time the D/F goes nuts and the A/P doesn't seem to work at that time either because it seems to "jump" like it is looking for the bearing it was on? Thanks.
Also will disconnect the D/F connection and check for dirt or anything and reconnect.

Check the 3amp fuse in the top of the T/M sounds like you not getting a good ground on your ground wire kit!! That may be causing interference if that fuse is blown I think the tick is you tranducer or if you have hit something and slightly bent your armiture!

Switching the depth finder battery connection from the T/M battery to the cranking battery was the fix. No problems all day of any kind (except not many fish in the livewell). Thanks.
