I have no problems with my HB 997 at top speed 55 MPH with one transducer. Ranger Boat. Most people that down the HB side imaging units don't have one. And want to talk bad about them so others don't get one. I will tell you to me there is nothing better for the money. $2000.00 is nothing for this technology. other units that are not as clear are thousands of dollars more. I can Scan a bank 300 feet long 50 feet out and find bream beds like you have never seen. I can go back over that area at 20 feet Scan and zoom in on the beds and see the eyes of the bream. I have told people fishing from the bank, to move down 100 feet and cast out 25 feet and they got a basket full, at the county lake. I can Scan a area and see if the bream are small or large. I caught so many large bream last year the man that runs the lake said he may have to ban the use of that HB 997 unit. He said I was catching all the big ones. I could catch a limit in no time. I would only keep 10 or 12 and give the others away to the lake manager or people fishing there. Sometimes I would just catch them and let them go and people on the bank would ask would I catch them a mess to eat. I can not wait to try and see if I can see crappie beds with it this spring. I am telling you if you don't have one you better get one. Well maybe you should not get one because if every one gets one we will catch all the fish. LOL

I Have Been Wanting One Of Those Units Badly. I Was Just Hoping To Find Someone Locally So I Could See Their Unit In Action First. Would You Consider A Demo Ride?

Hey BamaMan, could you post some pictures and tell us what we are looking at. I could use side imaging sonar if they are that good. I have been reading about them but need a few more pictures of bream beds and sac-au-lait brush piles (condos). That is a big investment. But i could quit building brush piles, and just look for them instead. Toledo Bend is big and full of natural brushpiles.

Well I am glad to hear everyone worshiping Humminbird. Good for you. Me, I have it for side imaging.

Wasn't for the SI. It wouldn't be on my boat. I will just keep my Lowrance and Garmin for the time being. I know good equipment. I believe I am qualified to made this assessment.

The only solution I can think of for this situation is a second transducer that can be mounted inside the hull or through the hull forward of the step to provide readings at high speeds.

I have a stepped transom on my boat but the aft most step never quite clears the water on my boat. There is a lot of noise, but I still can get depth readings while on plane at the speeds I prefer to run.

I agree about the Step Keith. After I put the "splash guard" on the transducer and eliminated the roostertail, I can now read bottom at WOT (35mph). This splash guard helped a lot.

Aqua dynamics for the puck needs improving. Is there such a thing?

There will not be a rooster tail if the transducer is far enough below the surface of the water while on plane, but would lead to a lot of damaged or destroyed transducers.

It was not in color the eyes were white with a black ring around them. You could see the fish and look were the eye was and tell it was the eye real good. But not in color. LOL

Todd took his off the step and put it on the bottom. He looses bottom contact above 30 on his Triton. It is in the water for sure.

Sorry bigfish I don't sale HB units so no demo rides here. Call HB customer service and ask for rep or retailer for your area they may offer demo rides.
or check with a boat dealer.
