I want to make clear that 90% of what I dont understand about sideimaging isnt related to reading the screen anymore. What I think confuses most of us not experienced is when things like the use of a home PC in conjunction with snapshots, waypoints, data transfer, etc. is discussed. Or a laptop in the boat!, Or 2 slots vs. 1 slot. Or 1 GB vs. 2GB cards. Or Navionics maps vs. Hot Spots maps. Or CHO units vs. non CHO units. A majority of fishermen have never confronted such possibilities so thus we get confused. At the surface you see how great these units are and their benefit on the water. Its the stuff guys do with the items mentioned that really have me behind the curve.

You made reference to interpreting the screens at the beginning of your post, so we were trying to help.

I am sure if you will ask single specific questions, we can get you an answer on a per question basis rather than it all lumped together. At least I will give it a try. I am sure others will too.

If you have the computer skills to log on the internet(which is evident) then you can do the rest of the interfacing. I have confidence in your abilities.

I wouldn't worry about a guide, I'd put the money into a camera. You don't always have to know exactly what it is. Just does it look like some thing that might hold fish.

Odds and ends on Forest Lake http://www.accuemap.com/pages/Forest...ide_scans.html

Odds and ends on Clearwater Lake

Some things you can do as you get better at it

Its not that hard. For the most part all your looking for is some thing that is different. Fish love that kind of stuff.

The first two below are just every day old weed lines. The last one is a sewer line on top the lake bottom.

Good examples Warren. Did you save those images to a card and then transfer them over to your computer? If so, what port on the computer did you use? Im assuming you did...which is what Id like to understand more. How do you physically transfer to the compter? What port on the puter do you use? USB port maybe? Do you bring the unit indoors to the computer and transfer it via USB port to the computer maybe? Or do you bring just the little card to the computer and have a device you put it in to transfer it via USB?

When you record a screen capture it goes directly to what ever SD card you have in the machine. Thats why I prefer the 997 to the 797, so you can have a map card in one and one for recording screen captures on the other.

If you got NVB, you don't have the card issue problem.

I'm not an NVB fan. They're from 2006 and none update able. I'd do a lot of looking around in the package to make sure it not only had the lakes I fish, but the most current high definition maps of the lakes I fish.

That depends. What did it say about the lakes you fish. You did ask when you ordered it, didn't you?
