    Autopilot does not give you any speed or change of direction control. You merely turn it on and the motor will maintain that direction. While it is on if you change the direction with the foot pedal or the CoPilot it will maintain that new direction.
    The wind affects the autopilot. If you are trolling in a crosswind you will eventually wind up on the bank. But you will still be headed the direction you set it when you go aground. Its a lot more critical at very slow speeds than higher speeds.
